Looking for the meaning of life in Islamic Holy Book (Quran)
Why choose religion to look for meaning?
I've tried looking inside philosophy, self-improvement and some videos of Jordan Peterson, but those doesn't stick well with me. I keep forgetting it most of the time I tried to recall it.
Prescribed from a sermon by Nouman Ali Khan.
There's a 25 year olds that are super seniors still in university.
That's me, yes. I should've graduated in 2022, but here I am in 2025.
"IDK what to do, the world is falling apart".
Never said it IRL, but that's what I often thought too.
"No sense of purpose, no sense of meanings".
Half correct, I really have low hopes the skill I get through college is enough to 'Teach' when I basically doing only my undergraduate thesis for 3 years, making all practical skills I developed rusty af. I often thinking of switching careers, which makes lesser sense, and I often lose hopes finding a job.
There's now way you engage in the book of Allah (God) seriously and you don't develop a sense of purpose.
That is what I'm doing right now, as prescribed. Hopefully I got my sense of purpose, and if not I should ended up learning one or two things at least from my religion. Time to commit.
Stop living in a world of comparison then thinking I don't have this I don't have that.
Ironically, sometimes I still compared my blog with those who have given up social media and thinking "damn look at how these people doing", "I don't have that, guess I have nothing, I should quit the server".
This chapter is called "Al-Baqarah" or "Cow" why the name?
It's named from the story of the Cow occurring in this Surah (verse 67-73), but it's not to indicate the subject of the Surah (chapter), quoted from this site
https://quran.com/surah/2/info
Cow has been a symbol of grandeur things if I recall, and the name also reminds me about some Indians who worship them. Though they worshiped living animal, as far as I know, though the one in this chapter is talking about the golden kind in the time of Prophet Moses.
What about those numbers? 1 to 40?
That's called ain. I don't know much about its system, it creates sections about topics and how much you might wanna recite and read quran per sitting. But ain is just a suggestion in my opinion, it's probably what reciting between 1-3 minutes of sitting should be.
01: 1-7
In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.
Almost every surah begins with this. I really need to know more what being compassion and having mercy means. It reminds me of father figure and mother figure somehow. Father's the one who gives compassions and mother's mercy.
alif lam mim
Idk what alif lam mim means. It's equivalent to something like ABC, and it occurs a lot the beginning of Quran's chapter.
"There is no doubt about it, a guide for those mindful"
Really bold statement. Reminds me of the term "Agnostic".
No doubt that it came from god, I think.
A guide? well yes I'm looking for that.
"who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and donate from what We have provided for them from what's been given."
I guess this is the bedrock of this religion. To believe what the eyes isn't capable to look, like the angels and Allah himself, to pray to him, and to donate.
Wait. Already?
This is the meaning of life? to believe, to worship, and to donate.
Donate from our job?. I guess one should have a job as quick as possible so from it something can be donated.
What are to be donated? Money? Energy?
it says from what's been given.
Soo.. talent as well I suppose.
and who believe in what has been revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺1 and what was revealed before you, and have sure faith in the Hereafter.
Not just in Quran, we should also believe in Torah, Talmud, Bible (Injil), as well as pages that came down to Prophet Ibrahim and Moses. God sent those as well.
It is they who are ˹truly˺ guided by their Lord, and it is they who will be successful.
What does successful means in this case?
As for those who persist in disbelief, it is the same whether you warn them or not—they will never believe.
Kinda harsh, locking their fate to never believe? but disbelievers are going to hell aren't they.
Allah has sealed their hearts and their hearing, and their sight is covered. They will suffer a tremendous punishment.
Ooookay. I'm having a thought that believing in the unseen is all intuitive. Like pre-installed feature of human in some sense, yet they're putting an effort to not to??
In the next ain next month I suppose.
Key takeaway
The basics is that we all has to believe and worship a god. Also to donate from your salary and your talent. There are some people who refuse to believe, don't bother with those who persisted in refusing to believe.
